Operational Improvement

Abilico has qualified and well trained staff for operational improvement by using risk-informed applications in order to reduce nuclear power plants refueling outage duration.  Refueling outages are used for annual repair and maintenance, as well as for inspections and tests.  Their duration can be reduced by changing the frequency of non-destructive control, maintenance and repair, and follow-up testing using risk-informed applications in addition to deterministic approaches, as well as by rescheduling the activities on maintenance, repair, inspections, and tests performed during refueling outages for the periods of plant power operation.

  •  Increasing the time period between activities related to technical maintenance, inspections and tests
  •  Decreasing the number of activities related to technical maintenance, inspections and tests implemented during the refueling outages
  •  Changing the type of activities related to technical maintenance, inspections and tests implemented during the refueling outages.

The evaluation of the impact on the risk requires evaluation of the impact on the core damage frequency (CDF) and large early releases frequency (LERF) in case of internal and external events contributing to the risk.

These risk-informed methods are only part of the PSA applications, in which Abilico teams took part.
